A little application (9k or so) that works as a shell for changing a file's type and creator quickly and easily.
why?
Because I hate having to manually convert files, especially when I have a large batch to do.
when?
Mmm....I'd say...right...about...now!
where?
I'm at:

(I love getting email (hint! hint! 8^7 )
how?
To make a new type/creator changer, duplicate dropit and rename it to something like “to Text”. Now double-click on it and edit the type and creator to your desired values, or “****” to keep an item the same. For instance, you could set type to “TEXT” and creator to “****” to change any document dropped on your new application to a type of “TEXT” and to leave the creator the same.
Alternatively, if you have an example of your desired file type/creator combo, drag it on with the option key down. This will take the type and creator of the file and enter it into the appropriate boxes.
These little applications can be placed on your desktop or some other convenient place. Some ideas for types & creators:
Type Creator File
---- ------- ----
TEXT ttxt TeachText/SimpleText Text File
ttro ttxt TeachText/SimpleText Read Only (newspaper) file
ffil movr Font File (for converting FKEYs, etc)
TEXT R*ch BBEdit Text File
TEXT **** A Text File
PICT **** A Pict file
...the list goes on.
the rest
OK, that's just about it. dropit is free I suppose, just don't sell it or anything like that. If you are a commercial PD/ShareWare company, then please don't include it on any disk costing more than US$5 without my permission. User Groups are OK, though.
